Today is Remembrance Day in our country.
I have always felt the gravity of this day. Every year I work hard to help my students and my own children appreciate how important it is to honour those who have fought for our safety, our freedom, our country and our world.
Today though, as fundamental as today's honours are, I know that I will find my mind wandering periodically from thoughts of our veterans and our soldiers to memories of a special person who is now at peace.

Wow. I am totally bawling my head off here. On the way to Jock's hockey game, so must gather myself together.
I know how helpless you must have felt, this whole time your friend was sick. I can't imagine what her hubby and kids are going through. Like you said, mostly it is the kids we think of. Not to minimize what he is feeling and how he is hurting, but you know what I mean. Thanks for sharing this with us.
She is (I refuse to say was) SO YOUNG. That just really gets to a person. My 36 year old cousin is battling a brain tumour right now. She has three young kids...really does make us appreciate what we have. I don't take it for granted at all, never have. Then something like this happens and it knocks me in the head again about how blessed and fortunate I really am. It could be any of us, at any time.

I wish your cousin comfort and peace. These types of situations really make you wonder, don't they? Why must these things happen?
Like you say - it's our responsibility to live each day to the fullest, and to help one another live each day to the fullest.

I too remember those lost in war...lot of Americans died to set the world free. And Canadians of course =)
Hippo - I'm sure Mentok would let you have some. Don't worry about that. I hope you are feeling better. And you're right about both Americans and Canadians dieing. But mostly Americans, I know...
